Abstract
APR( Acute phase reactant) -Score test is known as a good indicator of the early detection of the neonatal infection. To investigate the clinical usefulness of the APR- Score, we measured APR-Score by latex agglutination method in 30 term and 10 preterm neonates with highly suspected infection. APR-Score 3 was observed in 30% and above 2, above 1 were in 68%, 93%, respectively. The overall APR-Scores were lower in preterm than in term neonates. The positivity of culture was 73% among term and 60% among preterm neonates. The compatibility of the results of APR-Score and culture were 70% and 40%, respectively. The optimal APR-Score in term and preterm neonates as the guideline of infection status were above 2 and above 1, respectively. In summary, it is suggested that the APR-Score test by latex agglutination method can be a rapid, simple and relatively sensitive screening test for the early diagnosis of neonatal infection.
